"What?" The Captain tilted his head in confusion. "I don't understand."

"I am surrendering under the terms of personal surrender. I am not part of the army currently sieging your fortress, my troops have not aided in the siege of this fort. My surrender to you is thus covered under the terms of general surrender rather than the military codes of conduct." Harry smiled brightly. "I demand to be taken to the highest ranking member of Sokar's inner court to offer my total and unconditional surrender."

"I don't know if I can do that." The Captain blinked. "There aren't any other members of the inner court currently recognized by Sokar."

"You – you brilliant damned lunatic!" Xin's eyes widened as he finally understood. "That is genius."

"Uh," Ul'tak shared a baffled look with the Necropolis Guard Captain. "What just happened?"

"The only members of Sokar's inner court not killed by the destruction of Sokar's flagship were the Warden and the Lord of Flames. Sokar isn't alive to remove him from the inner court, so criminal or not he's the only one legally allowed to accept a surrender of this type." Xin pulled at the roots of his hair. "As the Lord of Flames is currently dead he can't legally accept the Warden's surrender – meaning that the only way for the Captain to actually obey his orders is to allow the Warden to surrender to himself."

"I obviously accept my surrender and pardon myself of any prior wrongdoings. " I bent down and picked up my staff and gauntlets. I turned to the Jaffa Captain, smiling as I did so. "Do you agree that what was just done was within the boundaries of the Laws of Sokar as they are written?"

Then the Jaffa and the boy were both flying through the air to slam into opposite walls. Zuko crashed against the wall next to the door. The Jaffa nearly collided with Janet and the little girl, Toph – only the doctor's hasty grab to pull the girl out of the way kept both of them from cushioning the impact. Even so, the Jaffa shook her head and started to reel to her feet.

Then Toph shouted, snapped her hands out, and the solid cement under the Jaffa's feet rose up, dumping her down on her back, and then crashed back down.

By the time Zuko managed to shove himself back onto his feet, a little dazed but otherwise apparently undamaged, the Jaffa was buried up to her neck in solid concrete, like someone buried in sand at the beach. The strangest part was that, from her expression, she was torn between irritation, admiration, and amusement.

Especially when the little girl crowed, stepped on top of the cement prison, and began what was unmistakably a victory dance.

Jack shrugged as best he could with the handcuffs. "I've got the gene. They didn't mess around with me." Dean tapped his lip, obviously thinking about Jack's offering. Jack was really hoping he'd accept and not just because it was the fastest way to get him out of handcuffs. "Dean," Jack gave an earnest gaze, "Trust me. I'm trying to help."

"Dude, maybe we should trust him," a second voice floated down from above and behind Jack, making the General start.

Dean glared at hidden figure. "Do you not understand the phrase 'silent as the grave'?"

There was a beat of silence. "Are you trying to be ironic?"

Snippet:
Nekhrun smirked viciously and ran one fingertip along the curve of his right ear. “I’m in disguise,” he explained. “As for being a rebel god… well that’s about half-right, which isn’t bad after all this time. No great surprise that the Shol’va over there doesn’t remember me – the Goa’uld only like stories about how their enemies are crushed, if they could get away with it they wouldn’t let anyone know about Anubis either. They’re such cretins. Information like that always causes trouble when it gets out.”

“Half right?” Jack asked sarcastically. “So you’re not a rebel?”

“I’m sure that this will break your heart, Colonel,” Nekhrun chuckled. “But I’m not actually a god, I’m just an egotistical parasitic snake wrapped around someone else’s spinal cord.”
